Greg Laswell is a sad man

Greg Laswell played an in-store performance at Plan 9 this afternoon. Every song he played from his repertoire was quite sad and depressing. He even made a point of apologizing for bringing the mood down on such a beautiful day.

He did manage, however, to make the somewhat small crowd enjoy the set he played. I don't know if it was the acoustics in the store or maybe new sound equipment of just the talent of Laswell and his band, but I have never heard a Plan 9 in-store sound that good. The sound just echoed off the walls and I felt immersed in the music.

The best quote of the day:
Greg: "You guys want to hear a sad, slow song or a... sad, slow song?"
Guy in back of store (yelling): "SAD, SLOW SONG!"

Sing, Theresa Says
High And Low
Girls Just Want To Have Fun (Cyndi Lauper cover)

His new album Three Flights From Alto Nido arrives in stores July 8.

I'm glad to see there's another Greg Laswell fan out there! The stuff he's been playing lately definitely bodes well for the new album coming out July 8 (even if it is sad). It makes for great music on the days you wake up on the less-preferred side of the bed.

Wow, that version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun is fascinating... Gives it a whole new meaning. Wonder why he's so sad. : )
