Looking up at the stars

The thing about meeting a lot of independent musicians through my job is that I meet a lot of people who are just like me - down to earth guys who are hopelessly addicted to all kinds of music (and not afraid to admit it). Richmond band At The Stars is just like that.

The guys derive their name after a Better Than Ezra song - but don't tell lead singer Jon Burkhart that. He's somewhat embarrassed by that fact.

Listeners with a love for jangly guitars and melodies normally found in early Brit pop will feel right at home with At The Stars. There's definitely evidence of influences from bands like The Cure, Radiohead and U2 that surround their music.

Their live show doesn't disappoint either. I saw them peform a 20 minute set a while back (in a shady bar that I had refused to ever go to again) that made me forget about everything else around me. Best show I've been to in the last year. That's how good they are.
