Top 10 albums of 2007: Winter

We finally make it to the end of the seasons and one more album to fill the Top 10 list.

ALICIA KEYS - AS I AM
Everyone and their mother said Alicia Keys' new album was going to be amazing. I didn't believe them. I thought it was heavily promoted and overly hyped. Even though Keys has an exceptional talent for music, I really wasn't that interested in it at first. That is, until I heard the opening piano notes. Keys' hauntingly beautiful voice fills the air and I can't stop listening. I think this time, the music industry got it right and promoted something with actual substance.

Go Ahead

see now, what's so substantial about alicia keys over say vanessa carlton? they both began at a young age, both are said to have writing partners, and what's more, you could say my radiator has a hauntingly beautiful voice if you really wanted to go there. point is, with lyrics that are like what any other female pop singer is going on about (love's salvation, feminism, etc.) incredibly dull melodies, and a very strong industry association with other, more 'original' soul singers (very obviously the gimmick in her case), I can't say that I can see why and what's more am not astonished as to why anyone thinks they've gotten aywhere beyond the focus of homogenized pop music.

Take her first single "Fallin' for instance and compare it to song like Kelis' 'suspended' and tell me she's anything unique. Just because you studied chopin as a child and slept over with rudy huxtable, doesn't make you a worthy contemporary.

It's ohh so easy to be hypercritical from the sidelines.
I'm willing to bet that the haters have accomplished little if anything with their own talents or lives.
Hence the reason to throw the HATRED in the sly form disguised as critique.
You are either
DYING or GROWING
HATING or LOVING
And since i didn't recognize any Growth or Love in the critique i guess we know where it was coming from.
GET GROWING, LIVING & LOVING

Yikes Kevin. I'm so sorry you are so intimidated by women. Maybe it's because of your very, very small....
