Top 10 albums of 2007: Fall

JIMMY EAT WORLD - CHASE THIS LIGHT
I’ve always been a fan of J.E.W. I have every album they’ve done and possibly every B-side. But their new album fell completely off my radar and I didn’t even realize they had new material to release. I previewed the album in the record store one day and after listening to it only once, I decided to immediately purchase it. Nothing could prepare me for what this album had to offer. If “Clarity” and “Futures” had a baby, it would be “Chase This Light.”

ACROSS THE UNIVERSE SOUNDTRACK
How could I not include this? I only saw the movie twice, got the album after seeing it and spent the next few days solely listening to the great music. In fact, I’m listening to the soundtrack (for the umpteenth time) as I’m writing this – that’s how much I’m into it. The reworking of classic Beatles songs is enough to get me to listen. I thought the movie itself was amazing, but the music is what made it so great. See the film first, then get the soundtrack. It’ll only enhance the experience.

RADIOHEAD – IN RAINBOWS
This album makes the Top 10 not only because of how good it is, but also how Radiohead promoted it. As you may well be aware, Radiohead, without the help of a record label, released “In Rainbows” for digital download and asked fans to pay what they wanted to pay for it. The news spread like wildfire in the blogosphere and ended up gaining the group national attention. And it doesn’t hurt that the album is pretty good too.
