Top 10 albums of 2007: Summer

GRACE POTTER AND THE NOCTURNALS - THIS IS SOMEWHERE
Honestly, I had never even heard of Grace Potter before I was offered “This Is Somewhere” promotional people. I listened to it and immediately began to sing along and get the catchy songs stuck in my head. No album has been able to do this that quickly. And since then, they’ve been everywhere – on tour (opening for bands that should be opening for them), on Leno (where he doesn’t realize how talented they are) and in the talk from people I come across day to day.

Ah Mary

RYAN ADAMS - EASY TIGER
Finally Ryan Adams came out of his whiny rock phase and gives us “Easy Tiger,” easily my favorite Adams album after “Gold.” I think it was about time we got our hardcore chain-smoking, almost drug free rocker back. And the music from Ryan’s latest gives us just that. Raw, emotive rock energy that has obviously been building up inside comes out in full force with this album.

NO MORE KINGS
I know, I’ve written about No More Kings recently, but it had to be included. This album was in my car on repeat for 2 straight weeks. And it only got better the more I listened to it. I love the references to 80s pop culture, but the rest of the album is simply amazing. All the hard rock mixed with funk mixed with solo acoustic makes for a wonderful combination.

Grace Potter is fantastic - I'd highly recommend her prior two albums, Original Soul and Nothing But the Water.

Thank you for putting Grace Potter on your top 10 list. She is on my list and I have not seen anyone else list this album which is so great. Ah Mary is also one of my top singles of the year.

Grace Potter has one of the finest voices in music today, and the Nocturnals are perfect companions. Their studio recordings hold their own with anything else being produced, and their live performances are simply amazing.

That Adams album was great. I keep hearing good things about Grace Potter. Thanks for the mp3s - I'll dig a bit deeper.

I found you because we were both in the Elbo.ws top blog rankings for last week with excellent point for quality but poor for popularity. Care to exchange links to try and bring that latter score up a bit?

All the best,

Chris
