Soundtrack to Books

Books, like movies, can have their own soundtracks. Some songs capture the essence of the story perfectly. Others are blatant homages to the book itself. Characters, themes, quotes, and even random phrases can be taken from books and turned into its "Songs From and Inspired By..." album.

Here are a few that I've grown quite fond of.

A Radio With Guts - Spiders Across The Stars from Acoustic (buy)
On The Road by Jack Kerouac

Relient K - In Like A Lion (Always Winter) from Apathetic EP (buy)
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
This song was actually written and recorded for the Chronicles of Narnia movie but was ultimately rejected by the movie producers.

Captain vs. Crew - Alex from Sometimes Up is the Only Direction (buy)
SpyBoy by Peter David
"Alex" refers to the main character Alex Fleming, who is a normal high school student who also happens to be a secret agent.

Lagwagon - Owen Meaney from Let's Talk About Feelings (buy)
A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving
This captures the humor and the seriousness of the book's title character.

Sleep Station - Goodnight To The Moon from After The War (buy)
Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd
A slow and relaxing tune. A perfect lullaby to fall asleep to.

Now go out to your local bookstore or library and find a book to listen to.... I mean read.

By the way, I just realized this is my 50th entry. It really doesn't seem like it's been that many.

Yeah! first off congrats on your 50th entry.

Second of all this was a very interesting post. I agree books do have soundtracks to them...

That Sleep Station track is excellent and that was one of my favorite books growing up. :)

I also thought that Captain vs. Crew track was awesome, I will have to check out the SpyBoy.
