The REAL best albums of 2006

The problem with discovering new music this year is that I found a lot of new stuff in 2006 that was released years earlier. Therefore, it doesn’t seem right to put it into a “Best of 2006” list. So instead, here is my “Best Stuff Found in 2006” list. The funny thing is that all these bands either just released a new album in 2006 or plan to in 2007.

Sleep Station - After The War
Released: 2004

This is the band's World War II themed album. Listen and you'll be taken back 50 years and feel the intensity of war, the passion of soldiers fighting and the heartache of missing loved ones.

After The War
Caroline, London 1940

This Day and Age - Always Leave The Ground
Released: 2004

Lots of songs about missed love, life lessons and finding yourself. Whiny alt-rock has never been so good.

The Long Winters - When I Pretend To Fall
Released: 2003

I keep finding myself tapping my foot and singing along to this album. Just listen to it.

Shapes

Thirteen Senses - The Invitation
Released: 2005

UK rockers Thirteen Senses offer a mix of euphoric melodies and their lyrics provide powerful imagery. This is the kind of album you want to drive long distances with.

Into The Fire

Metric - Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?
Released: 2003

Toronto-based Metric offers a beat-blasting, danceable, rock-filled fun time. They remind me a lot of Blondie mixed with electronica and new wave.

Combat Baby
Dead Disco
